In 2002, we started with a question: if we weren’t investment professionals ourselves, how would we want to have our own money managed?
The answer would become Baker Ellis Asset Management, an independent investment firm with a tight-knit team of accomplished professionals, a passionate focus on proprietary global research and total dedication to our clients.
Baker Ellis is owned by us, which forges our deep and sincere commitment to our clients.
As an independent firm, we have no incentive to favor any brokerage firm or investment product.
We serve as fiduciaries to our clients, and our interests are closely aligned with theirs.
A Tight-Knit Team
Founders Brian Baker, CFA and Barnes Ellis have more than 50 years of combined experience navigating investment markets and helping investors achieve their goals. Since founding Baker Ellis, we have gradually added highly accomplished investment professionals to our team.
Analyst J.B. Groh, for example, has been honored in the Wall Street Journal’s “Best on the Street” survey of analysts five times since 2006, and was named to the Forbes list of “Best Brokerage Analysts” in 2006.
Today Baker Ellis includes four analysts who have been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, two MBAs, a CPA and an attorney, bringing a range of perspectives to our independent research and client problem-solving.
Many investment firms operate with a single style or focus. We take a more flexible approach, seeking compelling opportunities around the globe.
Our research includes companies of any market capitalization. In our diversified portfolios, we may utilize stocks, bonds, ETFs and mutual funds.
Rather than limiting ourselves to an active or passive strategy, we believe there is room for both. We balance broad market exposure with individual holdings or investment themes that we believe are especially timely or possess particularly attractive risk-reward characteristics.
At Baker Ellis, our clients are at the center of everything we do. Rather than employ salespeople or relationship managers, we work personally and directly with each client, navigating changing markets and life circumstances.
Many of our client families have been with Baker Ellis through multiple decades and generations. We work closely with their accountants, attorneys and other advisors on issues ranging from the creation of trusts to the sale of family held businesses.
Our clients know that we will go to any length for them. From researching the finances of an assisted living company where a parent may move to helping decide whether to pay off a mortgage, we love helping our clients in any way we can.
While seeking to grow and maintain wealth for our clients, we always remember that good citizens are the riches of a city.
Baker Ellis professionals have served on non-profit boards ranging from Literary Arts to Friends of Chamber Music; coach young athletes learning the values of teamwork through sports; and have chaired public commissions and boards.
We also are proud to manage foundation accounts and donor-advised fund accounts for our clients, facilitating millions of dollars in charitable giving.
Welcome to Baker Ellis!
