History: Baker Ellis Asset Management was founded in 2002 by Brian C. Baker, CFA, and Barnes C. Ellis. We are an independent advisory firm, operate on a transparent fee-only basis, and serve as fiduciaries to our clients, who include individuals, families, trusts and foundations.
Over the years, we have grown through word of mouth and referrals until today we manage more than $500 million in separately managed accounts, ranking Baker Ellis as a leading Portland boutique investment firm.
The firm has five full-time investment professionals who work as a close-knit team serving clients across the U.S. and foreign countries including Canada and Japan.
Investment Philosophy: As value-oriented investors, we focus on companies and areas whose potential we believe is underestimated by the broader market. Our in-house research team seeks to identify attractive opportunities of any market capitalization around the globe.
Our separately managed accounts are broadly diversified to minimize individual equity risk and capture returns of a broad range of asset classes. Accounts may include equities, passive and active funds, ETFs and fixed income.
We are patient, long-term investors. We believe that wealth is created through long-term ownership of good businesses, purchased at attractive prices.
Comprehensive wealth management: We work closely with our clients to understand all aspects of their financial lives. As part of our services, we provide financial planning services and collaborate with clients and their other advisors on estate planning, tax strategies, trusts and charitable giving.
